E-marker chip
A small chip inside higher-power USB-C cables that identifies the cable’s rated capability to the charger and device.
PPS (Programmable Power Supply)
A USB-PD extension allowing finer voltage/current adjustments than fixed power profiles, common in modern fast phone charging.
EPR (Extended Power Range)
The USB-PD 3.1 extension that raised the maximum from 100W to 240W.
Power negotiation
The handshake process where a charger and device agree on voltage and current before high-power charging begins.
