A TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) cable is a middle ground on durability and cost between PVC and braided designs. Materials affect durability and feel, not charging speed — that’s determined by the wire gauge and e-marker chip inside, not the outer jacket.

Regardless of jacket material, the biggest predictor of a cable’s lifespan is strain relief — the reinforced section where the cable meets the connector. Cables that flex right at that joint, rather than along their length, fail fastest.
Choose jacket material for feel and durability preference; choose a cable’s wattage rating based on the device you’re charging, not the other way around.
