When a charger makes a buzzing or clicking sound, the cause is almost always one of a handful of things — most fixable without buying new hardware.
- A faint high-pitched whine at idle is common in cheap switching power supplies and usually harmless
- A loud or new buzzing sound, especially under load, can indicate a failing internal component
- Try the same device on a different charger — if the sound follows the charger, it’s the charger, not the device
Quick check
Isolate the variable: swap the cable, then the outlet, then the charger itself, one at a time, before concluding the device is at fault.
